BirdLife South Africa believes that conservation begins with conversation, which is why we launched the webinar series Conservation Conversations.
Since April 2020, this series has grown into a mainstay programme. Now in its seventh season, it delivers engaging education and entertainment each month.
Each session lasts 45–60 minutes, followed by a 15–30 minute Q&A, offering insights into South African or global conservation efforts, remarkable birding destinations, and our key success stories.
All episodes are recorded and available to watch on our YouTube channel via the links below.

We host these webinars on Zoom. If you have not already installed the Zoom application on your computer, please download it here — it is free
Click the button above, and follow the prompts to register. You will receive reminders and access links before every talk automatically – no need to register for every individual talk.
Upon registration, you will receive an email containing the link and password. Reminders will be sent the day before and one hour before each session.
The Zoom room opens 15 minutes prior to the start time. With a limit of 500 participants, please join early to secure your place for the live event.
Missed the live session? All talks are recorded and uploaded to BirdLife South Africa’s YouTube channel the following day, where you can watch and comment.

Kurt Martin is responsible for the organisation’s communications and marketing strategies, and using various forms of media to highlight conservation success stories and bring attention to the challenges faced by our precious birds.

Host & Flyway and Migrants Project Manager
Jessica Wilmot is the Flyway and Migrants Project Manager at BirdLife South Africa in the Regional Conservation Programme. She supports regional and global conservation initiatives that align with the strategies of BirdLife International and the Royal Society for the Protection of Bird’s East Atlantic Flyway Initiative. Jessica holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Policy, and Management from Central European University.

Host & Pamela Isdell Fellow of Penguin Conservation
Christina Hagen joined the Conservation Conversations team as a co-host in 2021.
She is responsible for the project to establish an African Penguin breeding colony at the De Hoop Nature Reserve. She has worked at BirdLife South Africa since 2010, on various facets of penguin conservation.
Christina loves hiking, board games (Wingspan is a favorite) and exploring the incredible biodiversity of the Western Cape. Christina is also a volunteer fire fighter.

Host & Avitourism Project Manager
John Kinghorn, BirdLife South Africa’s Avitourism Project Manager, is one of the four Conservation Conversations hosts. Qualified in the fields of both law and tourism, John is currently spearheading BirdLife South Africa’s world renown Community Bird Guide Programme with the aim of empowering communities and continuing to enhance South Africa’s status as leaders in avitourism.
John is a passionate birder and loves to spend his free time reading, cycling, playing rugby and sharing his passion for nature, wildlife and conservation across his social media platforms.
