Fynbos Conservation

Conserving Fynbos birds through science-led research and monitoring

About this Project

This project focuses on understanding and conserving bird species associated with the Fynbos biome, one of the world’s most unique biodiversity hotspots. Through targeted field surveys, long-term monitoring and data analysis, we assess bird population status, habitat use and responses to pressures such as habitat transformation, invasive alien plants and altered fire regimes. The project provides the scientific evidence needed to guide conservation action in protected areas, stewardship sites and production landscapes, ensuring that management decisions support the long-term persistence of Fynbos birds.

How we do it

We combine field-based surveys, citizen science data and spatial analyses to assess population trends, identify priority sites and inform management and policy decisions.
