Red and Green Listing

Assessing extinction risk and conservation success for South Africa’s birds

About this Project

This project delivers formal conservation assessments of bird species using internationally recognised frameworks such as the IUCN Red List and Green Status of Species. We assess extinction risk, population trends, threats and conservation actions to identify which species are most at risk and where conservation efforts are working. These assessments provide the authoritative evidence base used by government, conservation organisations and funders to prioritise action and track progress over time.

How we do it

We synthesise data from citizen science, targeted surveys and expert knowledge, applying transparent and repeatable assessment methods aligned with global standards.
